GF Special Assessments

Grand Forks may extend a three year deferral program for special assessments on new housing starts until November 2019. The move would allow a new plat containing 111 lots to be eligible for the assessment deferral. Deputy City Planner Ryan Brooks noted that the city had 83 single family homes built this year – down from previous years. Looking ahead the city has four main development sites. Council member Bret Weber says that bodes well for the future new home construction.
Council President Dana Sande says he struggles with the program. Sande says he's concerned that new homeowners may get hit with a big bill a couple of years down the road.
Supporters say extending the deferral period would also accommodate any additional developments proposed over the winter months.
