A new Grand Forks Skate Park is a step closer to reality.

The Grand Forks Park District has approved a bid of 293-thousand dollars for Phase-One of the skate park, to be located at Kannowski Park near the Point Bridge.

But Park District Executive Director Bill Palmiscno says it all hinges on a 100-thousand dollar Community Development Block Grant.

"We're hoping to find out this week (on the grant)," Palmiscno said. "If that goes through this week, we would try to start construction as soon as we can, and possibly have it done prior to winter. If that doesn't happen, then first thing in the spring, we'll start construction of it."

Palmiscno said construction would take 30 to 40 days.

The Skate Park was formerly located near the Grand Forks Police station. Currently, a portion of it is temporarily near Purpur Arena.

Palmiscno says the Park District is funding 70-thousand dollars of the cost of the new park.
