The Grand Forks Planning and Zoning Commission may take another look at the city’s sign codes. Over the years the city has tinkered with regulations and restrictions on height…size…and brightness for business signs based on location and zoning designations. City Attorney Howard Swanson says it’s not “inappropriate” to adopt sign regulations for residential areas - but there is a reason to move cautiously. Swanson says sign codes are a top headache for city attorneys' because of the uncertain landscape created by the courts.
P-and-Z member Frank Matejcek says the city has been wrestling with sign codes for over 40 years.
