A preliminary hearing is set September 8th for a 23-year old Grand Forks man charged with attempted murder and reckless endangerment. Jody Bergland-Jr is accused of shooting Glenn Hansen on Monday outside a Valley Dairy store on South Columbia Road.
Grand Forks police say a traffic dispute between the two drivers preceded the shooting incident. Bergland maintains he was trying to defend himself from an angry driver. Court records also show a No Contact order has been issued in the case.
Bergland was located by police a short time later at an apartment complex on South 34th Street. Hansen was transported to Altru Hospital for treatment of his injury.
Bergland could face up to 20 years in prison for the attempted murder charge - and five years for reckless endangerment if convicted.
