It’s not a done deal but the Grand Forks School Board is eyeing a budget for the coming year that holds the mill rate steady but raises property taxes to the tune of 2.86 percent. The preliminary spending plan authorizes 82 mills for the General Fund…13.86 mills for the Building Fund…and two mills for the Special Assessment Fund. Business Manager Ed Gerhardt says the budget is still a bit of a work in progress and numbers will be firmed up between now and final budget approval in September. Gerhardt says full health costs and salary amounts for other bargaining groups still need to be plugged into the budget document.
The budget was approved on a unanimous vote.
In other board notes...members began the process of filling the open seat caused by the resignation of Dane Ferguson. The deadline to apply for the position is September 6th. All applications will be bought to the board for consideration on September 11th. The appointee will serve on the board until the next regular election in June 2018.
