GF - Sales Tax Vote

Grand Forks voters head to the polls tomorrow (Tuesday) to decide the fate of a one-half percent sales tax increase to help pay for road repairs and the new water plant. The council is floating the idea that 60-percent of the revenue will go for streets and 40-percent to help offset construction costs on the water plant. City Council President Dana Sande says the percentage formula is only a concept that’s not set in stone.
Sande says it's tough to predict the future and there's nothing preventing it from being 100-percent roads one year and 100-percent water the next. He says the current council also does not have the ability to bind future council decisions. Sande says another part of the equation is how much the state chips in on both fronts.
The tax is expected to generate around five-million dollars annually.
