Property valuations in Grand Forks are projected to climb just over five-percent in 2017. City Assessor Paul Houdek presented the findings to the city council this week meeting as the Board of Equalization. Houdek says commercial property will clime 5.5% while residential goes up 7-8%. He says the city mailed out 979 tax statements to property owners who face a bump of ten-percent or more - roughly half the amount of recent years. Houdek says the bulk of the mailings were due to new construction…remodeling…and exemptions coming off property.
Only three appeals have been filed with the city – all from the commercial sector.
