GF - Parking Fines

The city of Grand Forks may have a new use for the cash collected from drivers cited for violation of handicapped parking. In the past 50-percent of the fine was dedicated to the Mayor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities – a group that no longer exists. City Engineer Al Grasser says he doesn’t know when the committee disbanded but they date back to the early ADA days. He says construction projects today follow guidelines dictated by the courts.
Around 17-thousand dollars is sitting in the account. The city is hoping to redirect the money to help pay for the installation of handicapped accessible sidewalk approaches.
The penalty for parking in a handicap zone is 100 dollars.
