GF - Housing Discrimination

A proposed bill being talked about in Bismarck generated plenty of discussion at last night’s Grand Forks council meeting. Members opted to weigh in on the debate about discrimination based on a person’s sexual orientation.
House bill 1441 only applies to sexual orientation and not gender identity. Council member Katie Dachtler says she would have a hard time supporting the legislation without including protections for all individuals.
Council President Dana Sande says any discrimination is bad. Sande says even if the legislation falls short - a partial win is better than nothing.
The council settled on a motion to support the bill – but encouraged lawmakers to amend it to include gender identities.
