On September 22, 2017 at approximately 6:29 pm officers of the Grand Forks Police Department were dispatched to the 4700 block of Belmont Rd. for a report and hit and run crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 GMC Sierratruck driven by Jeffery Peterson was travelling east bound on 47th Ave. South and ran the traffic control point at 47thAve. South and Belmont Rd. established for the Wild Hog 5K event. A male volunteer manning the traffic control point was injured when the truck struck him and ran over his foot. The suspect vehicle then fled northbound on Belmont Rd. but was located about 45 minutes later by officers. The injured male was evaluated by paramedics on scene and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injures. No event participants or other bystanders were injured during this incident.
Charges are pending on Peterson and this remains an open and active investigation.
