Around 100 people turned out in Grand Forks last night to remember Savanna Greywind. A preliminary autopsy suggests Greywind died as a result of homicidal violence. Charges have been filed against two people in connection with her death. Those who showed up in University Park for the candlelight vigil spoke out against the tragedy. The body of the 22-year old woman was found in the Red River north of Moorhead Sunday evening.
A couple who lived upstairs is charged with conspiring to kidnap and murder LaFontaine-Greywind, who was eight months pregnant, and steal her baby, who remains in protective custody.
LaFontaine-Greywind was a member of the Spirit Lake Dakota tribe. Fargo's cultural planner, Willard Yellow Bird Jr. says her death has devastated the broader American Indian community.
