Need a ride to the polls for next week’s special sales tax election? Grand Forks officials plan to waive transit fares on Tuesday to help people travel to the single site polling location at the Alerus Center.
Dial-a-ride and Senior Rider trips to the Alerus will also be “free” on Election Day. The idea for no cost bus rides surfaced at a recent council meeting. City Administrator Todd Feland says they want to make voting as easy as possible.
Feland says the free fare ride program may become a staple in future elections as well.
At last count: The city has received over 14-hundred absentee ballot requests - with just shy of 600 being returned.
A total of 715 absentee ballots were mailed out for the Arbor Park vote this summer. City officials say the absentee ballot numbers may be up for this election because the state requires anyone receiving a ballot in June to automatically receive one for the November election. The reason being is that absentee ballot applications are valid for 12 months.
