Some mixed news on the crime rate in Grand Forks in 2023. Grand Forks police say the overall UCR Crime index tumbled 12.5% last year.

The numbers show robbery…assault…auto thefts…and larceny cases were down. On the flip side there were increases noted in rape… fraud…and criminal mischief cases.

The GFPD also responded to 145 calls for service involving overdoses. Of those 25 involved illicit narcotics with five deaths. That compares to 38 overdose calls and five fatalities in 2022.  Despite the slight decline G-F-P-D Lt. Andrew Stein says the opioid crisis continues to be a significant problem in the community.

Officers did issue 934 speeding tickets – up nearly 59%. In addition 312 drivers were cited for DUI – a 25% jump. The number of seat-belt / child restraint tickets also more than doubled to 346.

One of the more dramatic drops involved the noisy party category. Last year officers responded to 18 complaints. That compares to 46 in 2022 and 134 in 2021.

There were 53,054 total calls for service in 2023.
