GF- Controlled Burn

A plume of smoke from a prescribed burn near the U-N-D controlled Oakville Prairie Field Station was visible in the western skies of Grand Forks on Wednesday. A Montana fire management company called Badger Creek Wildfire monitored the blaze. Prescribed burns are used to rid acres of unwanted species…improve habitat...promote growth of plants…and recycle nutrients back into the soil. The site includes native tallgrass prairie that serves as a North Dakota Game and Fish Management Area.
