Grand Forks is the 5th best city in the nation for those who transition out of service and into civilian life. That’s according to an analysis released by Navy Federal and Sperling’s Best-Places. The rankings are based on eleven metrics ranging from income and unemployment to proximity to V-A hospitals… military bases…and quality of life measures.
It’s estimated that some 250-thousand active duty military will transition out of service into civilian life in 2019. Brian Parker of Navy Federal Credit Union says states and local governments should learn to take advantage of outgoing military expertise.
As part of his state budget message Governor Doug Burgum this week proposed a 100-percent state income tax exemption on military retirement pay for members of the Armed Forces…National Guard…and Reserve.
The top 10 cities are: (1) Oklahoma City, Okla. (2) Omaha, Neb. (3) Colorado Springs, Colo. (4) Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area (5) Grand Forks, N.D. (6) Austin, Texas (7) San Antonio, Texas (8) Charlottesville, Va. (9) Rapid City, S.D. (10) Manhattan, Kan.
