The Grand Forks City Council is expected to approve the contract for the school resource officer program with the school district tonight. There are three school resource officers in Grand Forks. The two sides split the cost of the program with each paying slightly more than 94-thousand dollars for the 2017-18 school year. The S-R-O's are active in both the high school and middle school setting. The goal is to maintain the physical security / safety of schools and provide law enforcement related education and engagement opportunities with students.
The North Dakota Associated of School Resource Officer held its first ever school safety conference last week in Bismarck. There are about 40 to 50 school resource officers around the state.
