Around 300 people turned out for last night’s forum to discuss the growing opioid problem in Grand Forks. Mayor Mike Brown says make no mistake it’s a crisis situation that should alarm resident in the city.

The forum attracted everyone from health professionals and law enforcement to interested citizens. Police Chief Mark Nelson says the popularity of opioids goes beyond just throwing people in jail.

Council member Sandy Marshall says you can talk about personal responsibility but if you’re a victim of a crime you might think differently.

So far in 2017 the city has responded to 13 opioid related overdoses – two have were fatal.

Organizers say information gained from the meeting will be used to help develop a plan of action to fight drug addiction in the city.
