The East Grand Forks Police Department may revive a program launched last year to help fill the shelves of the local food cupboard.
The program allows those ticketed for a Street Maintenance violation in December to pay the fine, or make a cash or food donation to the East Grand Forks Food Shelf.
"Obviously, the food shelf and our needy citizens benefit from any donations that wind up on the food shelf," said EGF Police Chief Mike Hedlund. "And for us, it allows us a little bit more painless way of reminding our citizens, our community members, about our need for them to be parking properly in winter."
Street Maintenance tickets carry a $25 fee. Last year, the program produced 440 pounds of food for the local food cupboard.
The EGF Council is expected to approve the program Tuesday night.
