East Grand Forks may look to modify a grant application to bolster the planned LaFave Park project. The city is trying to land dollars from the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission to finance the river bank improvements. The focus is on a new boat ramp…parking…multi-use trails…a floating kayak dock…plus meadow and grass plantings.
The total project could hit one-point-six million dollars. The grant application stands a better chance of being approved if there is a 25-percent local match. Council member Marc DeMers says the D-N-R promised the city a new boat ramp in 2010 and the city should remind them - they are still waiting.
Mayor Steve Gander says it’s worth a conversation with regional D-N-R officials.
Parks Superintendent Reid Huttunen says there is some urgency to making application - as the deadline is August 2nd.
