EGF Ice Arenas

East Grand Forks may enlist the services of a consultant to help decide the future of its aging ice arenas.
Tops on the agenda is how to make ice without R-22. The city is considering a plan to stockpile the refrigerant which faces an E-P-A production deadline or phase-out.
The city received six responses to its study request. J-L-G Architects submitted the preferred bid of ten-thousand dollars – or 27-thousand dollars less than the next lowest bid.
Parks and Rec Director Reid Huttunen says the study will give the city some options. Those options range from do nothing to replacing the ice-making systems - or building a new arena and transforming the VFW into a multi-purpose building.
The city council will decide whether to proceed with the analysis when they meet next week.
