EGF - Garage Sales

East Grand Forks appears ready to move ahead with an ordinance placing limits on rummage or garage sales but without requiring local residents to physically obtain a permit before doing so. The council discussed the issue again last night in response to a handful of complaints that some residential homeowners were holding weekly sales. Council member Mike Pokrzywinski says he’s not in favor of requiring permits. Pokrzywinski says it’s a case of a few spoiling it for the many:
Councilman Henry Tweten says it comes down to homeowner responsibility.
The ordinance could result in limits on the numbers and frequency of sales – as well as hours of operation.
City Attorney Ron Galstad says he’ll work with staff on crafting the law before it comes back to the council for action.
