East Grand Forks officials have had preliminary conversations with the Minnesota Wild about bringing “Hockey Day Minnesota” to the city.
That’s the annual January event where games are played outdoors and televised on Fox Sports North.
East Grand Forks Parks and Rec Superintendent Reid Huttunen says the city is looking at two potential sites.
“Right along the river, the LaFave Park area, right on the forks of the river,” Huttunen said, “but there are no utilities there. So it would take a lot of infrastructure to be brought in or added.
“And the second location we’ve discussed (would be) the parking lot adjacent to our fire station near the Veterans’ Memorial/River Cinema movie theater area.”
Huttunen says no formal applications have been made.
The next “Hockey Day Minnesota” in 2020 will be held near downtown Minneapolis.
