Another test on the usefulness of drones takes place today as law enforcement partner with industry reps on drill to promote the usefulness of unmanned aircraft in disaster settings. The event will include the use of a larger Hermes 450 aircraft and two smaller drones to fly over Mayville (ND) and a simulated tornado disaster that will include walking wounded…first responders…and downed power lines.

The aircraft systems will send info back to a control center to be analyzed to reduce outage time and costs while safely monitoring systems.

The response is being sponsored by Xcel Energy, the state of North Dakota, the University of North Dakota, Elbit Systems of America, General Electric, Northern Plains UAS Test Site and SkySkopes.

The aircraft were launched from the Hillsboro airport.
