Cooler temperatures and rainfall slowed planting for North Dakota farmers in the eastern third of the state.

The weekly crop report from the federal Agriculture Department says rain didn't have has much of an effect on fieldwork in the western two-thirds of the state.Corn was 82 percent planted and 38 percent emerged. Soybeans are 57 percent planted, behind last year's 77 percent.North Dakota's spring wheat crop is 88 percent planted. The state's winter wheat crop has just started to head and was rated 74 percent in good to excellent condition.In the ranching community, pasture and range conditions were rated 54 percent in good to excellent condition and stock water supplies were rated 91 percent adequate to surplus.
