“A tremendous blessing.”
That’s how an official with Cities Area Transit describes a $3.6 million grant from the U-S Department of Transportation, to be used for the rehab and expansion of the Grand Forks bus facility.
Transportation Division Director Dale Bergman says CAT has outgrown its 33-year-old facility.
"We've been working on this project for the last eight years to try and get this funding," Bergman said. "This will rehab and renew and add on to our building so we have space to work for the offices and storage for our vehicles."
Bergman says the federal money will cover 80 percent of the cost, with the local share at about $900,000, which is already in the budget.
Bergman says work is scheduled to start this fall, with the project being finished in about 18 months.
