In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the folks at the Grand Forks Circle of Friends Humane Society are trying to help their colleagues in Houston.
Executive Director Lauralee Tupa said on Friday that some area volunteers headed to Texas with supplies, and found that there’s an urgent need for animal placement.
Tupa says 15 dogs and 8 kittens from the Houston area will soon be arriving in Grand Forks, and looking for new homes.
On KNOX Friday, Tupa told morning host Denny Johnson that people should not worry that they would be "taking somebody's pet."
"These are rescue pets," she said, "and they should be in (Grand Forks) this weekend, and then we'll start posting on our Facebook (page) with different pictures and things, and trying to get them all out and adopted."
Tupa says other shelters in North Dakota and Minnesota are filling up with animals from Houston.
Tupa says the Circle of Friends is also looking for more donations of supplies to be sent to Houston, such as gloves, paper towels, and dog and cat food.
