Governor Burgum has signed a proclamation commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 1997 Red River flood. In issuing the text Burgum noted that residents showed inspiring resiliency in the flood’s aftermath rebuilding neighborhoods and communities.

On the House floor Tuesday lawmakers approved a concurrent resolution marking the 20th anniversary. Representative Corey Mock of Grand Forks introduced the measure.

On Saturday (noon) city officials from Grand Forks and East Grand Forks will meet at the Sorlie Bridge to recognize the event without speeches or fanfare. It’s designed to recognize the 20-years of progress since the devastating event.
