High Speed Chase

Sep 18, 2012 at 10:43 am

A 24-year old man was arrested late last night after leading Grand Forks Police on a high speed chase throughout the city.  Authorities say Johannes Nielsen of Grand Forks was eventually stopped near the Purpur Arena.  The GFPD first made contact with the speeding vehicle shortly before eleven p-m during a routine traffic stop.   The chase down Columbia Road…32nd Avenue…Washington…and Demers lasted about 20 minutes at speeds upwads of 90 miles per hour.   As the driver started to circle the city police deployed spike strips.   Nielsen’s 1989 chevy pick-up was running on its rims before coming to rest.   The suspect was cited for numerous violations including driving under suspension….no liability insurance…and reckless driving.   Nielsen was booked into the grand forks correctional center.   No one was injured in the pursuit and there was no damage to police vehicles.
