The Grand Forks Airport is throwing a party…a birthday party of sorts to celebrate 50 years of flying. It was back in 1964 that the GFK terminal was moved from the western edge of Grand Forks to its current site. Today with a new terminal building the GKK is the 20th busiest airport in the country for take-offs and landings. Airport Executive Director Patrick Dame says one of the challenges coming down the road is revamping the main runway. Dame says the runway is showing some age and the goal is to reconstruct it without closing it down.
To help mark the anniversary the airport is celebrating with a large aircraft display….inflatable games….free grab-bags and t-shirt giveaways. The event runs today from three-to-seven p-m.
