The Grand Forks Air Force Base School Board (Tuesday) approved advancing preliminary design plans to the U.S. Defense Department in hopes of securing funds for a new Twining Elementary and Middle School.

The GFAFB is one of ten nationwide invited to apply for a Military Installations Grant that would target building improvements.  Around $650 million dollars is available under the program.  The deadline to submit the design proposal to the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation is September 26th.

Superintendent Terry Brenner says Twining is probably the second neediest building in the district behind Valley Middle School.  Brenner says the grant would cover 80% of the construction…

The Grand Forks School Board will review the District #140 board action on Monday.  Just over 300 students attend the K-8 school.
