The grand forks finance committee got its first look this week at a proposed ordinance prohibiting housing discrimination. The original draft ordinance focused on sexual orientation and gender identity. City attorney howard swanson says after reviewing the proposed law he opted to take a broader approach including all forms of discrimination.
Swanson says another area the committee will need to address is how to enforce the ordinance.
Several people spoke out both for and against the issue.
If adopted grand forks would be the first city in the state to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation. the committee will discuss the ordinance further at a september 23rd meeting.
