The grand forks city council gave a second and final reading last night to an ordinance that bans all forms of housing discrimination including sexual orientation and gender identity. it allows exemptions for religious housing…single family homes…and four-plexes where the owner resides. The law was passed on a five-to-two vote. Councilman ken vien says he supports the idea but not the ordinance because of potential unattended consequences of the law.
Councilman terry bjerke also voted against the ordinance.
In other council notes members directed staff to do away with a program designed to assist low income residents purchase a home. No one has used the down payment and closing cost assistance since it was adopted this spring.
The council meeting as the j-d-a also agreed to 461-thousand dollars in loans to help a fargo company expand to grand forks. Reiles transfer is looking at a ten-point-three million dollar project on north Washington street.
