East Grand Forks will focus its attention on a lagoon system for handling the city's future wastewater needs. The city council voted 5-2 this evening to take an interconnect plan with Grand Forks off the table. The motion directed city engineers to draw up a plan that will bring East Grand Forks into compliance with state and federal regulations and keep in the upgraded stabilization ponds in the same location. Some estimates put the project in the 18-point-three million dollar range. The city hopes to be able to land state bonding money to help defray the costs. The council also adopted a revised set of utility rate increases to set aside additional money for the planning and building of the new system.
